Challenge: Development 1

28th April, 09:00 - 11:30

HW 10:57 (10.0m) Narlwood Rocks

This session looks at Tides, Rigging, Launching and Recover, including:

  • How tides affect sailing boats and, in particular, how it affects sailing at TSC
  • How to rig set up and sail controls to prepare the boat according to different weather conditions and sea states and reef a sail when required
  • How to leave and return to a beach, jetty or mooring, including windward and leeward shore in simple conditions
  • How to check if a spinnaker is rigged correctly (if fitted)

The "start time" in the sailing programme is for the onshore clinic. You should be ready to sail, so with your boat ready and in sailing kit, for the start of the clinic. We recommend that you arrive at least 75 mins before the start time, as there is a lot to do before you get on the water.

The outline timings are:

  • Get you and your boat ready (60 mins) - arrive by 8am latest
  • On-shore session (45 mins) Start Time = 0900
  • Get on the water (15 mins)
  • On water activity (120 mins)
  • Get off the water (45 mins)
  • De-brief in the club house (15 mins)
  • Social (as long as you like!)

The Challenge Seriesis focused on sailor development, giving sailors the opportunity to develop and practice new skills as they work their way from newbie to experienced sailors. The Challenge: Development sessions are made up of 7 coached sessions, run by TSC instructors. Click here to find out more.
