Racing

We run a full and varied race programme throughout the year. Full details are in the Calendar.

The Frostbite

The year starts with a winter series for the Cruisers, with crews supplemented by those dinghy sailors who can't just relax over the winter. Short-course racing around the buoys is great fun. We are looking at introducing a pursuit format this year.

Spring, Summer & Winter Series

Over the year we run 3 handicap dinghy series, the blue-ribboned events of our dinghy calendar. Keenly competitive at the front of the field, there is more relaxed attitude nearer the back and everyone is encouraged to take part. These series are raced at weekends, mostly on Sundays.

Mid-week Pursuit

The longer evenings give us an opportunity to get out on the water after work. This series is great fun. The pursuit format means that the field closes up during the race, rather than spreads out, which gets the slower boats into the thick of the action. And the use of personal handicaps (as well as boat handicaps), means that everyone is in with a great chance of winning.

Long Distance Races

One key benefit of sailing on such a large expanse of water as the Severn Estuary is the opportunity to run long distance races, rather than always sailing around the cans.

Our Long Distance Series is run over the course of the season from Spring to Autumn and ventures as far as Hen and Chickens under the Severn Bridge to the South, a tactical battle against the tide, and Lydney to the North, a 25 mile dash of a round trip with the tide.

The Freezer

The Freezer brings our sailing year to a close. Dinghies and cruisers take to the cold December waters for a final festive race.
