Galley Duty

The Galley is an important and much appreciated part of any sailing event. It can feel a bit daunting to cater for a large group, but if you're able to produce a half-decent chilli, hot dogs, or bacon baps for an early morning race, then you shouldn't have a problem. As with most things, when you have done it once, you'll find out that it's pretty straightforward, which is why there is help on hand to get you started.

Help & advice

There is a detailed Guide to Galley Duty, which will answer many of your questions, which you can download by clicking on the link below.

And Sue and Carole in the Galley team are more than happy to give advice, answer any questions and to mentor you through your first duties if you would like some hands-on guidance - you just have to ask! Please click here if you would like to get in touch.

Timing

We suggest that you need to be ready to serve food about 15 mins after the end of a race, and the last competitors are usually in the bar within an hour of the end of a race. Most races finish about 2 hours after the published start time, Pursuit races are only 90 minutes, and the timings for Challenge: Development events are detailed in the calendar. If in doubt, ask in the OODs box.
